Lian Reif was 5 years old when they entered Vienna. She escaped by going on the ship St. Louis. The shipped was forced to return to europe. Lian, her brother, and mother disembarked in the french city of Boulogne.In 1941 Lian and her mother were able to make there way to Portugal and then on to New york where they lived the rest of their lives. When Helga Leeser was 14, her and her mother and sister were avoided being taken from Poland to a Nazi camp, by getting false papers stating they were Dutch Christians. Dutch couple in Rotterdam hid them in their flat just two blocks from the Police station. Helga's family had problems obtaining food, like other families they did not have the legal ration coupons. They needed to buy it. They were reduced to eating mainly sugar beets. After the war Helga and her sister and mother remained in Rotterdam where they hid out.

But by giving the Jews the blame Hitler created an enemy. Hitler said that all Germany’s problems had been caused by the Jews. Many people believed him.

So suddenly the delusion came to his mind, that the Jews where the reason for the 'inner poisoning' of Germany and that they had stolen the victory from Germany.
